We will explore a number of materials in the first term looking at the topic of abstract portraiture. Students will need to learn what abstract art is and will produce a number of portraits using different materials.

Nancy Standlee is an Arlington, TX, award winning contemporary artist who has a hard time choosing her favourite medium. She paints cheerful and joyful paintings with bold expressive color in oil, acrylic, mixed media and collage.
Grayson Perry CBE RA is an English contemporary artist. He is known for his ceramic vases, tapestries and cross-dressing, as well as his observations of the contemporary arts scene, and for dissecting British "prejudices, fashions and foibles".
Following on from abstract portraiture, students will be introduced to proportions and how to draw faces accurately.

We will be looking at how identity and culture has influenced art across the word. The students will first focus on Black art and how it has been used to celebrate their culture.
We will be continuing this project by looking at a number of different African art forms and how it has been used to celebrate their culture.
Students will create artwork that encompasses their own identity and culture. They will need to refresh their memory of portraiture and proportions from term 3 and using mix media incorporate it into their own identity and culture project.
