At St Andrew the Apostle School, the Student Council plays a vital role in ensuring that every student’s voice is heard, valued, and acted upon. Made up of committed representatives from Years 7 to 11, the Council works together to reflect the ideas and aspirations of the wider student body. Through regular meetings, open dialogue, and involvement in whole‑school initiatives, the Student Council empowers students to shape their own educational experience and contributes to a positive, inclusive, and ambitious school community.
Our student council offers students opportunities to grow as leaders. By representing their peers, pupils develop confidence, communication skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. They learn how to lead discussions, collaborate with others, and speak on behalf of their year group, helping them build essential skills for the future.
The Student Council also strengthens the sense of community within the school. Acting as a vital link between students and staff, it ensures that student perspectives contribute meaningfully to decisions, events, and school policies.
Membership of the Council promotes responsibility and active citizenship. Students gain experience in organising events, managing projects, and contributing to whole‑school initiatives. These practical responsibilities help develop maturity, independence, and real‑world problem‑solving skills.
Another key benefit is the meaningful platform the Council provides for student voice. When pupils see, their suggestions being listened to and valued, it boosts their engagement, motivation, and pride in being members of St Andrew the Apostle School. They feel empowered to contribute to positive change.
Charities
At St Andrew the Apostle School, the Student Council leads our charitable efforts by supporting three key local, national, and international causes. This work helps students develop the school values of caring and responsibility while gathering understanding of their role in the wider world.
Our local charity, Homeless Action in Barnet, allows students to make a positive impact within our community by supporting people experiencing homelessness through fundraising and awareness campaigns.
Nationally, the Council focuses on Refuge, a charity that support refugees and women and girls affected by domestic violence. This helps students understand important social issues and promotes empathy, inclusion, and social justice across the school.
Internationally, we partner with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), encouraging students to engage with global environmental challenges. Through eco‑initiatives and awareness activities, pupils learn the importance of protecting wildlife and caring for the planet.
