This unit gives students the opportunity to develop an understanding of body systems and their responses to sport and exercise. As an integral aspect of studying sport, the knowledge given in this unit will allow learners to support people in sport and exercise. Topic A focuses on the effects of exercise and sports performance on the skeletal system. Topic B focuses on major muscles, muscular contraction, antagonistic muscle pairs and fibre types. Unit 3 starts by providing an overview of the sports industry. It then looks at the scope and breadth of the industry in a national and global context.
All students are assessed in each unit in line with the Assessment Objectives (AO1-5). Each theoretical unit is assessed through half termly written exam papers. Unit 1 (Anatomy & Physiology) is assessed externally via pearsons in June. Unit 3 is internally assessed. Students will be required to produce two
assignments across the academic year.
