Year 12 — PSHCE

Term 1: Positive Wellbeing

This unit looks at the Positive wellbeing of the students and explores topics such as performance stress, anxiety & depression and personal wellbeing. The unit s designed to support the students in leading positive and healthy lifestyles through their daily habits and routines such as healthy eating and sleep patterns.

Students will develop a clear knowledge and understanding of how to maintain a positive wellbeing.

Being able to identify poor wellbeing in others and support them appropriately.

Term 2: Drugs and Risk Taking

This unit of work looks at drugs, alcohol and safety. Throughout the unit, students will be educated on the effects of drugs and alcohol as well as developing an understanding about the laws surrounding drug and alcohol misuse.

Students should better understand how to keep themselves safe and how drug and alcohol misuse can impact upon their lives and the lives of those around them

Students should develop an understanding of the symptoms of drug and alcohol misuse so that they can recognise these in their friends and know and understand how to help them.

Term 3: Diversity, Safety and Health

This unit looks at our society and the different people who make up our community. It fosters a respect for people from all backgrounds and considers what we can do to maintain a safe community. Topics covered include LGBQT+ and equality; Toxic Masculinity; Gangs and Medical Ethics

Students should reflect upon their own community and their role in it. They should develop an appreciation for different groups and reflect upon how communities can work together.

Students should recognise the importance of equality and mutual respect and look to uphold these within the school community through their actions.

Term 4: Personal Finance

As part of their preparation for life beyond 6th form, students will learn about a variety of financial matters that will be relevant to them in the near future. This includes Taxes; Banks & Money; Different types of employment and financial paperwork; Income & Benefits, Insurance and Debt management.

Students should develop a keen understanding of financial responsibilities when they become independent. They should be able to consider how they will manage their finances after college.

Term 5: Careers

Students will learn about their options post 16 and begin to plan for their future. The lessons will also cover key skills such as how to write a CV and a Personal Statement; Interview Skills; How to make post 16 applications.

Term 6: Health and Wellbeing

This unit will explore in detail how students should ;look after themselves in order to keep well and be able to achieve their potential. Topics covered include Healthy Eating & Cholesterol; Healthy eating including the impact of poor choices such as tooth decay; Stress management 2; Eating disorders and Immunisations & Vaccinations.
