Year 10 — Art

Term 1: Unit 1 - Animal Magic

(trip to the Natural History Museum) Students to do a series of skills based workshops as a foundation, they will construct an Insect board incorporating their skills. They will also begin sketchbook work, focusing on the assessment criteria A01 research - A02 experiment - A03 record.

30% portfolio per unit, students will be marked against the assessment criteria A01 research - A02 experiment - A03 record - A04 personalised response. Each section will be given a level out of 24 marks. Totaling 96 in full.

Research

Primary Source

A primary source (also called original source or evidence) is an artifact, document, diary, manuscript, autobiography, recording, or any other source of information that was created at the time under study.

Secondary Source

Information that was created later by someone who did not experience first-hand or participate in the events or conditions you're researching. secondary sources are generally scholarly books and articles. In art they can be another artists work.

Term 2: Unit 1 - Animal Magic

Students to develop a repeat pattern design based upon their sketchbook work. They will develop several design ideas. Resulting in a final outcome during the Christmas 5hr exam.

30% portfolio per unit, students will be marked against the assessment criteria A01 research - A02 experiment - A03 record -A04 personalised response. Each section will be given a level out of 24 marks. Totaling 96 in full. 5hr Christmas Mock exam.

Students to complete a series of workshops in different skills, and present the outcomes in their books, they will also select an animal to base more development work on.

Students will develop a range of design ideas for a 3d relief outcome. They will then select one to create.

A sculptural technique where the sculpted elements remain attached to a solid background of the same material. To create a sculpture in relief is to give the impression that the sculpted material has been raised above the background plane.

Term 5: Unit 2 - Urban Environment

Students will focus on A01 - A02 - A03, so research, experiment, and record ideas. They will do this through homework, lesson, workshop based activities and a drawing and photography walk.

30% portfolio per unit, students will be marked against the assessment criteria A01 research - A02 experiment - A03 record - A04 personalised response. Each section will be given a level out of 24 marks. Totaling 96 in full.

Term 6: Unit 2 - Urban Environment

Students will come up with 3 design ideas based on their project research so far, and choose one to create in a 10 hour mock exam. After the exam students will get the opportunity to refine the project.
